1. Stages: Ötz – Gubener lodge |
| 1.420 vm |
| 28 km |
Separate arrival at Ötz before 9 a.m. We set out at the entrance of the Ötztal valley, leaving the historic village of Ötz, popular because of its mild climate, behind us. We follow the course of the Ötztaler Ache until we get to the Horlachtal, a peaceful side valley. We pass Niederthai, an idyllic village in the centre of a high plateau embedded in majestic mountain scenery. Following a moderately steep, wide track along the creek and cutting across pastures, we will cycle through the quiet valley toward the Larstig Alm pasture. From here, only one last ascent separates us from our refuge for the night, a lodge located at an altitude of 2,030 m amid impressive mountain landscape.
2. Stages: Gubener lodge – Gaislach Alm |
| 1.436 vm |
| 49 km |
After a refreshing night’s sleep far beyond the timber-line we head off downhill to get to a cool trail demanding a good deal of concentration, taking us 1,000 vm down to Sölden. A short roller-coaster of a track later we will get to enjoy one of the classics of the Ötztal valley: the ascent to the Gaislach Alm, a mountain inn at an altitude of 1,982 m with a stunning view of the highest glaciated peaks right at the back of the valley. The stay at our comfortable accommodation makes the view even more pleasant, e.g. thanks to a delicious Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancake dish).
3. Stages: Gaislach Alm – Ötz |
| 950 vm |
| 56 km |
Leaving this beautiful place behind, we first turn to a short, steep ascent. We cruise the beautiful landscape across a gravel road, and later a ridge path. The longest uphill ride of the day (400 vm) leads us to the Wurzberg Alm, a pasture in a particularly peaceful setting, where we are going spend our coffee break. To round off our tour, we will stop for a refreshing swim in one of the warmest lakes of the Tyrol, the Piburger See. The last descent of some 100 vm is the perfect ending to this beautiful tour.
