Chiemsee - Königssee

This enchanting tour from lake to lake is more challenging than a day-trip, but not as demanding as a transalpine tour.

In 3 stages, we are going to take you along remote paths to discover the best view-points between the pre-Alps and the Berchtesgadener Alps. There are plenty of scenic highlights: fast trails, views reaching the main Alpine ridge, spectacular waterfalls and the massive cliffs of the Watzmann will emboss our memory forever. This is a picture-perfect route with breathitaking downhill trails and rustic places to stop for a bite to eat. We start from the Chiemsee, also known as the "Bavarian Sea." Before reaching the Berchtesgaderner Alps after 3 stages, we will make our last stop at the foot of the northside of the Watzmann. Our tour ends with a breathtaking trail down to Lake King. Your can decide for yourself if you want to extend your stay or travel with us back to Lake Chiem.

NEW: this tour is also available as a Single-Trail / all Mountain version!

Itinerary

1. Stage: Prien – Lake Walchsee

1.450 vm / 1.590 vm

51 km

Separate arrival of participants at Prien until 9 a.m. We will start from the parking lot, at first along the shores of the lake. From Bernau the route is briefly uphill to the Seiser Hof, from where we have a beautiful view of Lake Chiemsee below. A ridge path brings us to Aschau and on to Sachrang. During lunch break we get an opportunity to admire the view of the Tyrolean Zahmer Kaiser massif. The last ascent of the day (750 vm) takes us to the Priener lodge, where we are staying for the night. In case of favourable weather, we can have a refreshing swim in a nearby lake. Those who still have reserves, can walk the short distance to the peak of the Geigelstein to get an even better view of the spectacular Kaiser massif and the Zillertaler Alps further south.

2. Stage: Geigelstein - Loferer Alm

1.200 vm / 1.750 vm

51 km

The fact that we are going to cross the borders between Bavaria and Austria four (!) times today is a trivial detail in the face of the landscape we will explore at both sides of the „green borders”. Leaving the Priener lodge behind, we first head for Kössen, following a beautiful descent. Then we will set course for Reit im Winkel and Lake Weitsee, pushing our bikes toward the Staubfall waterfall. Having admired the wild beauty of the gorge, we then cycle toward the Heutal valley for today’s final section and, passing Unken, ascend to the Loferer Alm, where we are staying for the night at an old mountain hotel in the most peaceful setting. The chef is a master of the traditional cuisine and will no doubt fulfil our every culinary dream.

3. Stage: Loferer Alm - Lake King

1.500 vm

58 km

After a substantial breakfast, consumed on the terrace if the weather allows it, we set off to explore the landscape we have just admired from the hotel. A magnificent descent will take us to the picturesque village of Lofer. From here, we follow the river Saalach until a nice, comfortable trail between the Steinernes Meer and the Reiter Alpe leads us uphill to the Hirschbichl. After an invigorating stop at Lake Hintersee we are going to sweat once more as we climb the 1,400 vertical metres to get to the Kührointalm pasture. We relish the picture postcard view as we rest again between the massifs of the legendary Watzmann and the Hoher Göll. After a short side-trip to the Archenkanzel, from where we get a bird’s eye view of the Königssee, we enjoy the last descent to the lake inviting us to have a last refreshing swim to round off the tour.
