Itinerary - Version 1

1. Stages:

Lake Chiemsee - Münster

1200 vm

87 km

We ride south, first along the charming shores of Lake Chiemsee, then toward the foothills of the Bavarian Alps and on to Austria, passing several beautiful vantage points on the way. From Kufstein we follow the Inntal valley, taking pleasure in the view across the river Inn, and on to several lakes (Reintaler Seen). This relatively easy stage gives us a chance to get used to the upcoming strains and get to know our companions.

2. Stages:

Inn Valley - Ziller Valley - Pfitscher Joch Saddle

1750 vm

72 km

After a few km we enter the Zillertal valley, wide at the beginning, and follow the Ziller creek until the narrow back of the valley, where we face a sharp ascent. Before the Pfitscher Joch saddle we pass the Schlegeisspeicher reservoir and then push the bikes past the massif of the Zillertal Alps (ca. 30 minutes) before reaching today’s destination. From here we have to do without luggage transfer and escort vehicle. Both will be available again once we reach Sterzing the following morning.

3. Stages:

Pfitscher Joch Saddle - Sterzing - Penser Joch Saddle

1380 vm

59 km

We rush down the Pfitschertal valley to Sterzing (from 2,240-1,000 vm), where we will stop for a capuccino and relish the bustling activity in the historic centre, then leave civilization behind once more to tackle today’s last section, a 1,200 vm ascent to the Penserjoch saddle.

4. Stages: Penser Joch Saddle - Penser Valley -  Jenesien/Bozen

1400vm

68 km

Another long downhill ride takes us through the scenic Pensertal valley. Across various side-paths and numerous ascents we reach the day’s destinaton with its exceptionally beautiful view. From our accommodation high above Bozen we can overlook the entire Etschtal valley and the surrounding mountains.

5. Stages: Jenesien - Etsch - Mendelpass to Valley di Non

1598 vm

40 km

Starting off early we will head for Bozen, flying down some 700 vm across steep vineyards. Crossing the Etschtal valley, we ride toward the Mendel pass, enjoying the beautiful view of Lake Kalterer, surrounded by huge vineyards. Shortly before lunch break we have to push the bikes (15-20 minutes). After a long, pleasant descent toward trails in the afternoon we stop for the night at Smarano, Val di Non.

6. Stages:

Valley di Non - Lake Molveno

1920 vm

62 km

Looking down at Lago di Clès, we once more climb to a height of 1,500 and cycle across pastures and almost endless orchards, enjoying the spectacular view of the Brenta facing us and of the Ortler further north. We reach today’s destination, a hotel with a stunning view of Lake Molveno, after another steep ascent.

7. Stages:

Lake Molveno - Lake Garda

720 vm

57 km

A refreshing descent first thing in the morning will be followed by a tough uphill ride to the Val di Lomasone. The landscape looks increasingly Italian, with the sheer high alpine rock faces being replaced by softer shapes. Lago di Garda is calling! Soon we have an unforgettable view of our longed-for final destination and dash down toward it. The last descent from Tenno to Riva is a real treat.

8. Day: return transport

Please let us know in advance (on the registration sheet) if you want to prolong your stay at beautiful Lake Garda. Otherwise, you can return with us to the starting point (Prien/Bavaria).
